Members of the Standards Organisation of Nigeria Governing Council have been challenged to ignite the zeal for the organisation to attain the peak of its regulatory function.
Chairman of the Council, who is also the Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, Mr. Edet Akpan threw the challenge at the second meeting of the body held at the SON Corporate Headquarters in Abuja.
Mr. Akpan stated that the goal should include, making SON achieve the status of hallmark of quality infrastructure agenda in Nigeria.
He expressed delight at achieving full attendance of members at the meeting, stating that the agenda included the formation of three operational committees through which the Council will carry out its statutory functions.
The Committees according to him are, Technical (T); Finance and General Purpose (F & GP); and Appointment, Promotion and Disciplinary (AP & D);
Other issues for consideration according to Mr. Akpan were 2018-2020 Work Plan; 2018 Work Plan and Budget; Programmes outside the budget that may be considered essential as well as international organisations to which SON belong, its membership status and financial commitment.
At the end of the meeting, the Mr. Edet Akpan emerged Chairman of the AP & D; Dr. Halilu Hamma for Technical while Chief Chris Dirisu is for F & GP Committees respectively.
The Council Chairman reiterated the enormity of the Governing Council’s task of increasing SON’s rating on the regional, continental and world map of standards bureaus.
