Tambuwal’s Presidential Bid: Buhari’s Camp Fight Back

Tambuwal…in the eye of the storm

The presidential ambition of Sokoto State governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal may be in for a herculean task if indications from the Nigerian seat of power are anything to go by.

Tambuwal’s sins appear to be majorly two-fold – daring to dump the All Progressive Congress (APC) for a return back to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), and secondly, daring to criticise the Buhari administration.

Tambuwal, had issued a statement in which he berated the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari over the spate of killing in the country, adding that “The worst part of all this is that these deaths are avoidable and the killings preventable. It boils down, at the end of the day, to failure of leadership.

“Nigeria cannot progress and be part of a 21st Century forward looking world by creating new batches of mourners every other day.

“This is not the way to go. That is not what Nigerians voted for in 2015. That is not what will build a virile, united, united, politically stable and economically prosperous African giant,” he said.

Following this, the Buhari Media Organisation said at the weekend that Tambuwal was already running against the tide and would swim into political oblivion in 2019.

The group said in a statement that not only would Tambuwal’s Presidential ambition remain a pipe dream, but that he would equally be rejected by the people of Sokoto state in 2019.

The statement signed by the Chairman, Niyi Akinsiju and Secretary Cassidy Madueke reads: “The recent tirade by Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal against President Muhammadu Buhari is unfortunate, ill-conceived and a total assault on our cultural values. Tambuwal had in recent time engaged deliberate campaign of calumny against the President.

“It is necessary to remind Tambuwal that it is not African tradition for young people to insult their elders and such negative attitude usually has its consequences.

“We also advise Governor Tambuwal to draw a lesson from what happened to Ayo Fayose in the last Ekiti governorship election, as he was roundly rejected by the electorate due to his non-performance and unguarded utterances.

‘’We also want to assure Tambuwal that his case will not be different from that of Ayo Fayose, as he will not only be rejected as the next governor of Sokoto state, but his presidential ambition will remain a pipe-dream as he has not only denied his people development, but has wasted the scarce resources he ordinarily should have used to render service to the good people of Sokoto state. Definitely Tambuwal will go into political oblivion in 2019 as he is already running against the tide.’’

The group warned that the Sokoto State Governor is on a road to perdition just like Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State in 2015, adding that this infamous style of politics belonged in the past
