NLC Suspends Nationwide Strike

The National Labour Congress, NLC has suspended the warning strike it embarked on to protest the federal government’s decision to suspend the meeting of the tripartite Committee on minimum wage.

NLC President, Comrade Ayuba Wabba who announced the suspension at a news conference said organized labour has received firm invitation to the reconvening of the meeting of the tripartite Committee.

In a letter released confirming the suspension of the strike, stated that the federal government has planned to reconvene the tripartite committee on the minimum wage.

“Due to our united and sustained action, a meeting of the tripartite committee has now been fixed for 4th and 5th October, 2018,

“After due consultation, the organised labour has decided to suspend the warning strike to provide the committee a conducive atmosphere to conclude its work, The warning strike, is hereby suspended,

“Unions and state councils are requested to maintain a high level of vigilance and mobilization to ensure that the struggle for a reasonable minimum wage is successfully concluded” the letter read.
