How Female Workers Forced To Undress Over Used Sanitary Towel

An issue of female workers forced to undress so company officials could ascertain which of them was undergoing her monthly cycle is raising dusts in town.

Already, the police has stepped in, arresting three senior managers of Brown Cheese Company in Limuru area of Kenya where the incident took place.

Limuru is about about 30 kilometres, northwest of Nairobi, the Kenyan capital, and the issue is over alleged wrongful disposal of sanitary pads, reports the Star.

However, the decision of forcing female workers to remove their clothes under investigation is what beats many people hollow.

Limuru Sub-County Police Commander Philip Mwania, who confirmed the incident, said that they had to step in and make the arrests after receiving reports from a section of female workers at the company.

“We got reports on Wednesday, July 5, from women working in the company.

“The act was inhuman and uncalled for. We visited the company and managed to arrest three top female management officers.

“They are in our custody and the statements have been recorded and awaiting to be taken to court,” Mwania said.

The Eagle checks show that the matter first stirred the social media on July 4, triggering more interests.

In the social media account, an employee claimed that women were subjected to harassment by a quality assurance manager in the quest for identifying the person who had allegedly disposed of a sanitary towel in the wrong bin.

“I work at Brown’s Cheese Company in Tigoni and earlier yesterday, women were subjected to harassment in the presence of a Human Resource officer to remove their underpants to check who was on her menses,” an employee narrated.

“We did not have a choice because we were threatened that we would lose our jobs as casual laborers if we didn’t comply,” the post continued.

The Institute of Human Resource Management (IHRM) has strongly condemned the alleged bullying and sexual harassment witnessed at Brown’s Food Company in Tigoni, Limuru.

In a statement on Friday, July 7, the human resource firm said that the behavior by a HR officer went against the Human Resource Code of conduct and ethics, and if found culpable, appropriate action will be taken.

Expressing deep concern over the matter, its Executive Director, Quresha Abdullahi , according to The Star said: “These bullying and harassment allegations violate laws in the Constitution among other laws, the National Employment Policy, and the Human Resource Management Professionals Code of Conduct and Ethics”.
