It is said that a rare occurrence like today’s Leap Day, begets a rare responses.

Companies which are in agreement with the saying are offering a rare incentive – price cut to commemorate the day.

Leap Day is rare indeed because it occurs once every 1,451 days – or every four years, and some who subscribe to its rarity and associated connotations are not leaving anything to chance.

They have gone out of the way to offer price cuts to customers.

But do not just walk into any Nigerian shop with the indignation of asking for such price cuts: a slap or typical Nigerian abuse may be what you get.

This is because, no Nigerian concern has been known to identity with the rarity of Leap Day to the point of offering price cuts.

Reports show that Wendy’s, Chipotle and Krispy Kreme, all US outlets are among the chains offering cut-price offers for February 29

Krispy Kreme is offering cut-price donuts while Wendy’s is giving out free Cinnabon Pull-Aparts for today only, mailonsudany reports.

It is a great coincidence for Wendy’s Breakfast, as the leap year happens to fall on the fourth anniversary of its breakfast menu.

To celebrate, the chain is offering customers a free sample of their new product, the Cinnabon Pull-Apart, only available during breakfast hours and while supplies last.

“Our new Cinnabon Pull-Apart merges nostalgia and deliciousness in every ooey-gooey bite, offering a unique spin on a classic cinnamon roll”, Wendy’s US chief marketing officer Lindsay Radkoski said in a statement, adding:

“As we celebrate our four-year breakfast anniversary with this new product, we’re offering sweet deals starting on Leap Day – a day that comes around every four years”.

Krispy Kreme customers can get a dozen glazed donuts for $2.29 when they buy a regular-priced dozen, a packages that usually cost $7.99.

Customers who happen to have a Leap Day birthday can also get a dozen of glazed donuts for free with no purchase necessary.

Dave Skena, global chief brand officer for Krispy Kreme said: ‘An extra day in the year is an irresistible opportunity for Krispy Kreme to be extra-sweet to our guests.

“So, we’re sweetening Leap Day by the dozens, including for fans whose true birthday comes around only every four years”.

Members of Chipotle’s rewards club can qualify for free guacamole with every order today. To make use of the deal, customers need to use the code EXTRA24 at checkout on the Chipotle app and at Chipotle.com.

“Our guests understand that ‘guac is extra’ is not just a phrase, it’s a testament to the quality and freshness of our real food”, the report quotes Chipotle’s vice president of brand marketing Stephanie Perdue as saying

‘There’s no better way to celebrate an additional day on the calendar than with our iconic guacamole not being extra.’

How do Burger King’s customers benefit from Leap Day?

Customers could earn four times as many points on its rewards program, it said, adding “For one day only, members of Burger King’s rewards program Royal Perks can score four times the points – known as crowns.

“The deal can only be applied on up to three orders placed online or in-app”.

The big question is: Are you aware of any Nigerian outlet identifying with Leap Day, by offering customers incentives.
