The Lagos State Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources has commenced putting clean energy and environmental sustainability on the front burner.
This it has begun to do with a stakeholders’ meeting on the proposed Lagos Cleaner Energy Schools Innovation Challenge (LCESIC) 2026.
According to information shared on the Lagos State official X handle, the pilot programme is designed to promote clean energy awareness, environmental sustainability, and innovation among secondary school students across the state.
The meeting, held at the Ministry’s Conference Room in Alausa, Ikeja, brought together representatives of government ministries, agencies, educational institutions, development partners, industry stakeholders, and regulatory bodies.
Discussions focused on the framework, objectives, and implementation strategy of the proposed initiative.
In his keynote address, the Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Mr. Biodun Ogunleye, emphasized the importance of partnerships in building a sustainable structure for the programme.

He explained that the initiative is aimed at identifying and nurturing young talents who can contribute meaningfully to Lagos State’s clean energy and environmental sustainability goals.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Engr. (Mrs.) Ibilola Kasunmu, described the project as a strategic effort to develop future innovators while equipping students with critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
She also stressed that collaboration among stakeholders remains essential to achieving the state’s sustainable energy and economic development objectives.
A technical presentation was delivered by Dr. Yetty Ogunnubi of YD Company alongside Engr. Iyaniwura Ademola, outlining the programme’s structure, which includes renewable energy, energy efficiency, waste-to-energy solutions, and other sustainability-focused innovations.
Stakeholders at the meeting contributed suggestions on implementation, mentorship, evaluation criteria, and partnership models, while also pledging support for the successful delivery of the initiative.
