One hallmark of a humanitarian organisation worth its name is service by example. The Maryland Royal Lions Club (MRLC) demonstrated this philosophy aptly recently.
This they did last July 11.
Led by the president, Lion Khadeejat Mojisola Akanin-Alimi, the members of the club effectively moblised Highway Managers of the Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LWMA) in the clean-up of its immediate vicinity, the Maryland area of Ikorodu road highway Lagos.
The highly motivated members of the club took on the heaps of leftover food and other wastes under shrubs in the area; raked up other debris, like dead leaves, human waste, rubles and other packed items, sweeping the streets clear .They also donated sundry cleaning tools like, Brooms, Rakes, Dust packers and as well as the State approved giant waste disposal bags.

Other items that the Maryland Royal Lions Club donated to the area were personal protective materials such as Hand gloves and Nose masks.
The cleanup exercise in perspectives
It was a moving sight the way the club members collaborated the highway manager in keeping the environment clean, an exercise that was topped with a light refreshment.
As modest as it may seem but it indeed left a positive imprint in the psyches of people, not only the neigbourhood people but other passersby.
