The United States of America (USA) has come up with another immigration rule: to deport or permanently ban Nigerians guilty of visa overstay offences.
The visa overstay sanction is the latest in a series of anti-immigration laws from the US directed at Nigerians
“If you remain in the United States beyond your authorised period of stay, you could be deported and could face a permanent ban on travelling to the United States in the future,” the mission stated in X post yesterday.
It is coming on the heels of a related policy of limiting the non-immigrant and non-diplomatic visa to three three-month single entry, citing reciprocity policy, visa overstay, national security and wrong documentations as part of the reasons.
The US Department of Homeland Security, predicated on the fact that visa accounted for a significant portion of immigration violations annually.

According to the embassy, tougher measures have become necessary, in the light of this above reality.
By the latest policy, individuals who remain in the country unlawfully for more than 180 days can face a three- or ten-year ban and, in some cases, a lifetime bar from returning.
It had further announced a fresh $250 mandatory integrity fee for students, workers and tourists’ visas, and several non-waivable travel-related surcharges.
