Is Nigeria secure, with all that is happening around? That was the question that our Correspondents ROTIMI AKINDELE & MONSURU ADEGBENRO posed before some Nigerians; the responses are instructive

It is only God that can secure Nigeria and not human being as Nigeria doesn’t have any form of security. The security of Nigeria is under God’s watch. Nothing is secure in Nigeria; anyone can just do anything not right and get away with it.

Nigeria is not secure as there are lots of bandits, insurgency and other various forms of crime.

I think the government has to do something about it. The way Nigeria is going is not the way it is supposed to. We the citizens, (before voting the present administration into power) did not know that it was even going to turn out this way, so I think the government has to stand up for the masses and do something about the security of Nigeria.

Is Nigeria secure? I don’t think there is any form of security in Nigeria. It is with fear that we even go to our day-to-day activities in this country. I don’t feel secure in my house and I’m scared my property is not secure as well. The vehicle I am currently using for my transport business is on installment payment so I have to be waking up at various times late in the night to be watching it as well; I don’t feel it’s secure. I had to do this despite the fact that I have removed the battery and some other vital parts. I am just trying avoid being in debt.

I know how I got the vehicle and there is no peace of mind and security in this country as I am talking to you presently.

The assistance I think the government can render is to at first make the supply of foodstuffs surplus. For instance, if the general price of rice is ₦20,000, the government should make it available for the masses at the rate of ₦10,000 or ₦12,000 at the state and local government secretariats.

I believe once hunger can be taken away from poverty the problem of insecurity will be reduced a bit; it majorly arises from hunger.

There is no security in Nigeria. Before the #ENDSARS protest commenced, the citizens were already scared of police officers. There was one of my neighbors who on her way from work was stopped by stopped by someone who alighted from a commercial motorcycle and she was told to hand over her bag or lose her life.

The criminal was pointing a gun direct to her head so she had to immediately hand over her bag. This happened because the police was no longer patrolling. If they were, the criminal might still be scared. Because they know there are no longer police officers patrolling, they feel they could do whatever they wish. This is why I say there is no security in Nigeria. It is only God that secures one.

Is Nigeria secure? Nigeria is not secure. On a scale of one to ten I will rate Nigeria four and an example is that yesterday when I was going home, I experienced robbery; they robbed my colleague on a road around Ikotun. There are lots of security lapses in the country; I don’t know what the police is doing. At every point, you see them you will think they are doing their work but they are no.

They are rather waiting for tips or bribe like the ₦50 0r ₦100 they collect from buses which is the only thing they do. We are not secured in this country anymore

Nigeria is not secure. Especially on roads that are not so busy, there are no security there. The police, soldiers and various security operatives are not doing their jobs. Everyone is on their own like survival of the fittest but in advanced countries they care for their citizens. Here in Nigeria, they don’t care about their citizens as everyone is on their own. I will conclude again by saying Nigeria is not safe.

As a citizen of Nigeria, I am safe living by divine grace but for security in Nigeria it is nothing to talk about. It is zero in the sense that police are on their duty post but not performing their duties even in the event that anything occurs. For instance, I reside at Opebi – for more than one week, there have been continuous robberies in various forms like door to door robbery, stealing of people’s vehicles and others. There has been so many things happening in the street but nobody to rescue, so, for me Nigeria is not safe.

The government should do what they need to do, aftercall, all the security operatives are collecting their salaries; they should be made to do their jobs.

There is no security the way it should be in this present-day Nigeria. Fear is in the minds of several Nigerians due to the various security challenges they have witnessed. What I will just say is that every one of us should be prayerful so the Almighty God can showers his mercies upon Nigeria. What the government can do is to assist in providing qualified security operatives and not thieves who call themselves security operatives in disguise. There is a Yoruba adage that “when one is sent on an errand as slave one will go on the errand as a child”.

Most of the security operatives we have in Nigeria are callous; they are not doing their jobs the way they are supposed to do it. What the government asked them to do is different from what they are doing. So the government should assist our security operatives so that they can do what they are supposed to do at the right time.

I don’t think Nigeria is a safe place for anybody. There is still police brutality just that people cannot even voice out because of fear, They do not want to talk because the government would not even do anything about it.

In my own opinion, Nigeria is not secure, seriously. I say this looking at looking at everything going on now in the country, including police harassment. The government is not doing anything about it instead they (people in government) are just collecting our tax for nothing.
