The Black Maidens of Ghana, has emerged champions of the inaugural WAFU U17 Girls’ Cup, after defeating their Nigerian counterpart 5-4.
Score at regulation time was 2:2 warranting a penalty shoot, in which the hosts converted all five spot kicks, as against the Nigerian side which converted four
The game which was played at the Ghanaian Centre of Excellence in Prampram, outside Accra, saw both sides showing good account of themselves but it was the host team that scored first., through Gertrude Amoafo in the 14th minute, followed by Priscilla Mensah’s goal five minutes after.
The Nigerian girls remained undaunted, until Precious Oscar scored in the 34th minute, with a powerful volley right inside the Ghanaian vital area.
Another goal came in the 78th minute through Harmony Chidi buoying up the confidence of the Super Flamingos.

In the shootout however, Defender Taiwo Adegoke failed in converting her kick, hitting the woodwork instead.
That saw the hosts burst into celebration, having won both the game and the competition.
The game between Benin Republic and Cote D’Ivoire to determine bronze winner in the WAFU U17 Girls’ Cup was another shootout affair, in which the former had the upper hand.
