Underground Tank Caves In Under Weight Of Wedding Party Dancers And.

An underground tank has caved in under the weight of wedding party dancers, plunging them in, and spreading grief around town.

An otherwise joyous and exciting celebration immediately turned to one of mourning with six of wedding party dancers already confirmed dead.

The incident happened in Kihunguro, Ruiru, Kiambu County of Kenya yesterday, the dead including five women and a child, reports say.

The dead were among the advance party to the bride’s home at Kihunguro, Rairu, who in tune with tradition had gone to pick the bride for her great day.

According to County Police boss, Perminus Kioi “The people who had come to pick up the bride started dancing and singing on top of the tank, which unfortunately collapsed under their weight”

“Of the 17 people, we lost six while the others were rushed to various hospitals in the sub-country”, he added.

Reports indicate it was the dancing that triggered the collapse of the underground tank, leading to the wedding party dancers plunging in.

Apparently, it was the overwhelming joy of the nuptial union and no one took note of weakening or other state of the underground tank

It added that the bystanders quacking rose to the occasion but were not able to do much, as while a child reportedly died immediately, the rest died later though rushed to a the Ruiru Hospital.

“An underground water tank collapsed at Kihunguro near the administrative police post in Ruiru sub-county. Friends and family were celebrating a wedding when the tank collapsed with about 30 people inside”, Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi said.

“Some of them have been rescued through the efforts of the Kiambu County government fire brigade and community members. The rescue operation is ongoing. “We sympathise with the affected families and wish the victims a speedy recovery”, he was quoted by Nairobi News as adding.

The platform said the Kiambu Fire Service had arrived the scene swiftly and helped in ameliorating the situation.
