What is the lot of many members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) on due posting to primary places of service?
The reality may not be what some people think.
In fact, the authority of the NYSC has expressed concern over the manner in which youth corpers are being treated at the different stations of their posting.
The lamentation is coming from the Director-General of the NYSC, Brig.-Gen Olakunle Nafiu, while he spoke today in Jos.
Occasion was the 2025 Annual NYSC Corps Employers’ Workshop, where he was represented by NYSC Deputy Director for the North-Central Zone.
Mrs Gbamisola Salami, the, Nafiu emphasised that corps employers played a crucial role in shaping the overall experience of corps members during their service year.
He listed the unacceptable ways in which NYSC scheme or members were being treated:
- delays—or outright failure—in applying for corps members,
- failure to provide statutory welfare provisions,
- in some cases, inhumane treatment of corps members.

“Your organisations provide a platform for corps members to apply their skills, gain practical experience, and develop their professional capacities,” he said.
Nafiu, urged employers to recognise the numerous challenges faced by corps members and to create a supportive work environment to promote well-being and productivity.
“By working together, we can ensure that the NYSC programme remains relevant, effective, and impactful in shaping the next generation of Nigerian leaders.
