The rare opportunity was made known today by a high ranking Canadian government official, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, Sean Fraser.

In a series of tweets his official Twitter account @SeanFraserMP today, spoke of plans to bring additional healthcare workers to the country.

This he said was part of a revamped immigration approach targeting sectors which have been manpower shortfalls.

“We are bringing more health care workers to Canada!

“We’ve changed the approach to immigration by bringing an additional focus on certain sectors facing serious labour shortages. The first sector to benefit from this new process is healthcare.

“Today, 500 skilled healthcare workers will be invited to immigrate to Canada, and on July 5, we will invite 1500 more. This new program is expected to double the number of healthcare workers coming to Canada through the federal Express Entry system this year.”

“The announcement will strengthen our healthcare system and help provide more Canadians with the high-quality care they deserve.

Last April, the Canadian government reiterated its commitment to quality healthcare delivery to its citizens, adding that Instead of having a single national plan, it has in place 13 provincial and territorial health care insurance plans.

“Under this system, all Canadian residents have reasonable access to medically necessary hospital and physician services without paying out-of-pocket.

“Roles and responsibilities for health care services are shared between provincial and territorial governments and the federal government.

“The provincial and territorial governments are responsible for the management, organization and delivery of health care services for their residents”, it said.

The latest window is indeed a rare opportunity for healthcare workers to emigrate to Canada.

A formal release on it said “Today’s announcement advances Canada’s efforts to retain and recruit health workers to address the health workforce crisis.

”Supporting a sustainable health workforce is one of the shared health priorities agreed to by the Government of Canada and provinces and territories, outlined in the Working Together to Improve Health Care for Canadians Plan”.
