The management of the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Anambra State, has reacted to trending reports on a three-storey building collapse that occurred near it.
The narrative is that several students of the institution lost their lives in the incident, an off-campus private accommodation.
Reacting through a statement however, the institution’s Public Relations Officer, Dr Oguegbu Celestine Udoka, clarified that the building, located in Amaokpala community and not within the Polytechnic complex, was a privately owned lodge occupied by both students and non-students.
According to him, no student of the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, had been confirmed dead as a result of the incident, neither are the two persons believed to be trapped in the rubble students of the polytechnic.
Also, as at the time of the collapse, most students had already rounded off their second semester examination and had departed school.

Nevertheless, the management of the school has appealed to members of the public to disregard unverified reports from any quarters.
It also assured the public that it would continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as rescue operations continued.
The Eagle reports that the Rector of the polytechnic, Dr Chioma Irene Awuzie, had earlier on Monday visited the scene of the building collapse to ascertain things personally.
