Over the weekend, an antique pair of Birkenstocks that belonged to the late co-founder and CEO of Apple, Steve Jobs, were auctioned off for $200,000, which is the equal of N87 million.
According to CNN, the IT pioneer’s brown suede Arizona sandals, which were estimated to bring in $60,000, unexpectedly sold for an astounding $218,750 when they were put up for auction at Julien’s Auctions together with an NFT.
The shoes were offered for sale in Julien’s Auctions’ “Icons and Idols: Rock ‘n’ Roll” public auction, which also included items of apparel, jewelry, musical instruments, and memorabilia from artists and icons like Elvis Presley, Kurt Cobain, and John Lennon.
Moreso, the footwear set a record for the highest price ever paid for a pair of slippers at auction, according to the auction house.
Prior to the sale, the Californian auction house said the palm slippers, described as “well used” but still “intact,” were a wardrobe staple for Jobs in the 1970s and ’80s. Jobs died in 2011 from complications from pancreatic cancer, Daily Trust revealed.
