Hundreds of Nursing Students are on the road in protest, following the breaking in of hoodlums into their hostel and the raping of one of them.
They are of the Taraba State College of Nursing Sciences, Jalingo, who had just gone through the nightmare of an overnight attack on one of their off-campus hostels.
The attack resulted in one of the nursing students being raped and also being inflicted injuries by the attackersn the attack which happened in the early hours of today.
“The hoodlums came in their numbers and attacked one of the female students’ hostels”, a student union official who spoke on the condition of anonymity said, adding that
“They raped one of the students and also carted away phones belonging to the students and other valuables.
“They also cut one of the fingers of the students after raping her. She is now on admission at a private hospital located at Mile 6 area in Jalingo,” he said.
“When the first attack happened last week, we complained to the school authorities and the Commissioner of Tertiary Education visited the college and promised that security measures would be put in place in all the hostels, but nothing was done,” he said.
The reoccurrence of the act in spite of their alerting the concerned quarters was what angered the students the more, forcing them into the streets in protest.

The urged the Taraba State Government and security agencies to protect them from further attacks.
Another complaint they laid was the use of off campus hostel which appears to make them more vulnerable.
The students also raised concerns over the continued use of hostels located outside the college premises despite the completion of hostel facilities within the institution.
“We have seven hostels, one for male and six for female, but students are all located outside the premises of the college and there is no adequate security, which exposed us, the students, to danger,” he said.
