Alleged immoral affair with a member’s wife has led to an elder’s stabbing to death, while he was delivering a sermon at the pulpit.

Francis Opiyo, 35, was rounding off a mini-sermon, about handing over the microphone to the person with the assignment, when his attacker struck.

The attacker, whose identity is yet to be ascertained,  had come to church with a knife hidden in his bible, ready to settle a grudge.

Worshippers at Ebenezer SDA church in Homa Bay, Migori County of Kenya, were stunned to see incident play out.

According to Francis’ elder brother Joseph Opiyo, the elder brother preached well and was in the process of concluding his session and handling over to his eventual assailant, reports the Standard.

The elder just removed a knife he had hidden in the Bible, and stabbed Francis’ left side of the chest.

“He neither knew that the colleague had hidden a knife in a Bible nor his intention.

Though the assailant ran and surrendered to the area Assistant Chief, it did not prevent a mob from moving down to his house and razing it.

“The suspect surrendered to the assistant Chief and we are detaining him at Magunga Police Station”, Suba South Sub-county Police Commander Caxton Ndunda said, adding: “We are interrogating him so that he can be charged,” Ndunda said.

“The assailant has told my officers that the deceased man was in a sexual relationship with his wife. But this should not have led to death. He ought to have sought the intervention of clan elders or the church leadership to solve the issue instead of the violence,” Ndunda said.
