‘I Apologise My Son’s Threat To Invade Kenya’

Some statements can be dangerous even on their face value, especially when they centre on national security in a sensitive region.

This probably has informed the reason the father of the man who made one such statement to apologise.

The above speaks to the decision of on Twitter by Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Yoweri Museveni’s son to invade the neighbouring of Kenya and capture its capital in two weeks.

Muhoozi Kainerugaba is a regular voice on social media where he sometimes makes sensitive statements, but this one has forced his father, President Yoweri Museveni to ask Kenyans for “forgiveness”

Museveni, has been in power since 1986, and it is widely believed that he is preparing his son to take over.

“It wouldn’t take us, my army and me, 2 weeks to capture Nairobi,” he wrote, referring to Kenya’s capital.

This promoted Kainerugaba’s removal from sensitive position in government as commander of land forces.

The removal followed a swell of reactions, and flood of tweets, rekindling long-held suspicions on some hidden motives of the government in Kampala.

on Tuesday after sending a flurry of provocative tweets suggesting the two countries drop their colonial borders and be united.Mr Museveni’s move in softening the impact of the blow by apologizing, but then he also went ahead to promote him to the position to the rank of general, and retaining him as his adviser.

The report says Museveni has long been suspected of grooming the 48 year old to succeed him when he eventually steps down.

“I ask our Kenyan brothers and sisters to forgive us for tweets sent by General Muhoozi,” Museveni said in a statement.

“I know for a fact that Gen Muhoozi is a passionate Pan-Africanist. However, the correct method for Pan-Africanists is confidential interactions or using the available (forums),” he added.

He said he had spoken to Kenya’s former President Uhuru Kenyatta, and expressed regret that he had stepped down at the end of his two terms in August.

“My only problem with my beloved big brother is that he didn’t stand for a third term. We would have won easily!” Gen Kainerugaba said.

In a later tweet to his more than 600,000 followers, he said: “It wouldn’t take us, my army and me, 2 weeks to capture [Kenya’s capital] Nairobi.

This led to an uproar on Twitter, with people accusing Gen Kainerugaba of being “reckless” and jeopardising relations between the neighbouring states.

It led to him urging Kenyans to “relax”.

“I would never beat up the Kenyan army because my father told me never to attempt it! So our people in Kenya should relax!” Gen Kainerugaba tweeted.

Reacting, Uganda’s foreign ministry issued a statement saying Uganda treasured its “strong bilateral relations” with it “brotherly neighbour”.

“I ask our Kenyan brothers and sisters to forgive us for tweets sent by General Muhoozi, former Commander of Land Forces here, regarding the election matters in that great country.

“I know for a fact that General Muhoozi is a passionate Pan-Africanist,” Mr Museveni said.
