House Of Assembly Members Impeach Speaker Obasa, Elect Successor

Members of the Lagos State House of Assembly have impeached Speaker the speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, immediately electing replacement.

The new speaker is his former deputy, Mojisola Meranda-Lasbat, representating Apapa I in the assembly.

Obasa’s offence was alleged abuse of office and gross misconduct, and impeached with him was the Clerk, Olalekan Onafeko

Onafeko was said to have been singlehandedly brought to the assembly by Obasa. Both were behind the ban on journalists covering the activities of the assembly.

There was tension in the premises House of Assembly while the impeachment exercise lasted even as security had been beefed up at the complex.

A combination of the men of Rapid Response Squad (RRS) Task Force, and the Police have have been mobilized to secure the premises.

They turned back motorists and persons from gaining access.

The mobilisation of security followed rumours that some elements mobilized by estranged members were planning to foment trouble.

A twist to the unpleasant atmosphere played out after charms were discovered on one of the trouble makers, believed to a pro-Obasa player.
