Google Sanctioned By Russia, Fined More Money Than It Can Pay

The US tech giant has been fined by Russia a heavy amount of money, two undecillion Rubles  or $20,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000.

The development is causing a disquiet within tech and diplomatic circles as it is stated that the tech company could not pay that, and it is for Google restricting Russian state media channels on YouTube.

Two undecillion Rubles – is a two followed by 36 zeroes – which in considerably more than the $2 trillion Google is worth.

Analysts imply that the  tech giant has been told to pay what it cannot despite being one of the world’s wealthiest companies, even as there is more to it than just the financial value of the sanction.

The United States of America (USA) and Russia are currently not the best of friends giving the state of the world’s alliances, and many are already reading political meanings into the latest sanction

In fact, it is far greater than the world’s total GDP, which is estimated by the International Monetary Fund to be $110 trillion, they say.

The Russian state news agency Tass, has explained that the fine doubles every day it is not paid, and that is truly real trouble for Google, analysts say.

As to the financial implication of the fine, media reports quote Tass, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov as admitting that he “cannot even pronounce this number” but urged “Google management to pay attention.”

According to Russia media outlet RBC, Google is being sanctioned by Russia because it restricted the content of 17 Russian media channels on YouTube.

“While this started in 2020, it escalated after Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine two years later.

“That saw most Western companies pull out of Russia, with doing business there also tightly restricted by sanctions”, the report said..
