The Delta State Government has reacted to the reports of harassment and sexual assaults on women during the Ozoro Festival in the state.
It gave its reaction through a statement issued on Friday, by the Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Charles Aniagwu.
In the statement, the government not only described the action as barbaric and unacceptable, but also called on security agencies to investigate the incident.
It said those responsible for the assaults on women should also be prosecuted.
“We are calling on the police and other security agencies to fish out the perpetrators of these heinous acts and bring them to justice. No individual or group should be allowed to hide under the guise of a festival to perpetrate criminal activities,” he said.
The state government, Aniagwu stated remained committed to protecting all citizens, particularly women and other vulnerable groups.

On the issue of organising festivals, he called on custodians to always put in place, measures to protect everyone during the festival.
According to him, the state government still maintained zero tolerance to gender-based violence, and anyone found culpable would be made to face the law.
