Bishop Peace Okonkwo – This Life Is Worth Celebrating

Leave the fact that her birthday was celebrated as usual last June, her antecedents are such that make for regular reference and recall. As a matter of fact, there is no better way to describe this, convener of the International Women Prayer Conference (IWPC) and visionary of the Rehoboth Home For Stranded Ladies, Bishop Peace Okonkwo than one of tremendous impact.

You see this assertion realised in many ways than one; if not in her peculiarly warm and infectious human relations, but much more so in the many pet projects and programmes that bear her insignia.  They cover the very vulnerable segments of society, women and children, and seek to address the knotty challenges of their daily existence – accommodation, education, health and spiritual well-being.  Could you imagine for a moment the number of women that have got their liberation from challenges, on account of just attending the sessions of the IWPC, a monthly ladies-only outreach that has recorded stunning miracles in Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Gabon etc where it has held

Or better still, what would have become of the many ladies of different ages and tribes, who for one reason or another, found themselves in the streets, with no homes to return to, with no one to care?  It had taken the unusual passion of this woman of God, to provide convenient shelter, and to reach out to such stranded ladies to accommodate them at this passion home, she has christened Rehoboth.

Beyond the roof over their heads, they have in the course, rediscovered their spiritual destinies, while learning trades that could guarantee them a worthwhile economic life for the future.

Yet, these are only a tip of the iceberg, of the many initiatives with which she has been impacting society.

This is not a comprehensive treatise on the woman they say possess healing smiles, at least not yet, but permit it to be mentioned too, that she had equally been extending that healing touch to women for cervical cancer issues through a another health outreach, through children education support and  orphanage support amongst others.

In the course of running with her visions, she has been able to demonstrate the possibility of leaving footprints, positive one at that, on the proverbial sands of time.

Indeed, Bishop Peace Okonkwo, just like her husband, have demonstrated that Christianity is not just carrying big Bibles and delivering relentless sermons, but also in helping to bring about the desired change in the people and in the society. Her legacy stands tall, and has, today, won her a piece on this column.
