I’m Peter Obi’s senior but I am ready to be his running mate in 2027 -Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso

Presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party NNPP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has at long last accepted to become running mate to his counterpart at the Labour Party, Peter Obi.

According to Kwankwaso: “I’m bigger than Peter Obi politically; I’m his elder brother, I’m a PhD holder, I performed better than him when I was the governor of my state. I’ve no problem with deputising for Peter Obi”.

His offer is coming against the background of preparations by the political parties onwards the next general election slated for 2027.

According to the politicians in a viral video which Kwankwaso delivered in Hausa, for him to become Obi’s running mate, certain conditions have to be met,

In its reaction, the Labour Party, has welcomed the offer without however expatiating on the conditions he said has to be met.

“We are willing to engage in discussions, provided that trust is established”, he stated.

The Eagle reports that the Labour party, with Obi as presidential candidate had an impressive outing in the last general election, and although it came third, many Nigerians were of the view that it actually won the elections.

Others said even if it did not win, that it was commendable in the outing, with its flag bearer amassing tremendous support everywhere he went during the campaigns.

Obi’s soaring acceptance was on the back of many factors, including his cerebral performances, in which he had facts and figures to underpin an argument he was making.

The massive support is seen in the performance of the party at the polls, at which Peter Obi secured approximately 6,101,533 votes, compared to Kwankwaso’s  1,496,687 votes.

The Eagle reports that Obi, had also stated before now, in a series of posts on his official X handle, stated that he was open to working with other political parties so long the conditions were right.

He added that he was neither desperate nor would like to preoccupied with the 2027 election issues when Nigerians were suffering from hunger, poverty, insecurity, and other pressing challenges.
