Back To Sender: Landlord’s Diabolical Plans Backfires On Daughter

It was truly a typical case of back to sender, as a landlord’s diabolical plans simply backfired on his daughter on a particular Sunday afternoon.

Rather than learn the lesson of his wickedness and repent, the said landlord continued to witch-hunt the innocent tenant, only to meet the worse.

The victim who narrated his experience to our correspondent last, said he leant many lessons, one of which is that, going out of one’s way to please others, may not guarantee peace.

Also that persecution of the innocent, sometimes leads them to breakthrough.

The victim, Edwin Awazieama, 46, from Obibi Ogbaku in Imo State, recalled doing all necessary for peace but that the landlord simply resorted to diabolical fights, not reckoning with the back-to-sender principle. He tells the rest of the story:

“Dark, tall and huge, he was used to hounding tenants of his oblong and archaic face me-I-face-you building in down town Shomolu, Lagos mainlandl.

“His popular threat line was: “eni ti oba fe, ko oko kuro n’ile me”, which by constant application that time, we understood to mean: anyone who does not want my style should just leave my house.

“There was just one toilet and one bathroom serving a total of six rooms of average 3 occupants each, and another three rooms of average two occupants each, in the boys quarters area, totaling about 24 human beings.

“Despite that the queue for use of the toilet and bathroom begins forming from about 4am each day, some tenants still end up moving up to the front yards before dusk, just so they could freshen up for the day.

As against habitual rent debtors, I was servicing mine, at least six months ahead, paying electricity, and voluntarily donating towards light reconnection, each of the several times, he had failed to remit the bill.

I can’t forget coming back from church one Sunday afternoon, and half way began to sense this strong feeling in my spirit. It was as if somebody walking by me was saying: be very careful as you enter your room, be careful!

“Three children of the compound, in their usual manner, had sighted me afar off and ran to welcome me. They followed me to my door, and immediately rushed in ahead of me immediately I opened the door.

“And that was how trouble started. One of them, Mariam, who happens to be the Landlord’s daughter had gone to sit right on the cushion by my usually open window, directly facing the door.

Oun ta mi, oun ta mi, Oun ta mi, oun ta mi, she began to shout shortly after sitting on the chair. And she was agitated, and began to cry, scratching her back, her elbows, her abdomen, all over her body.

I was both confused and affrighted, quickly trying checking her out, I never knew the landlord was around, in fact, by the boys’ quarters watching.

I saw his right hand clutched as he launched forward immediately, lifting his massive body with the force of an agitated lion sighting danger. Then he began charging forward and at me….
