18 Die, As Men Use Poisonous Herbs To Punish Wives’ Infidelity

Infidelity in marriage is a serious offence, but is it to the extent of using harmful drugs to punish unfaithful wives?

That is what it seems in this village where about 18 deaths have already been linked to the practice.

The setting is Chikanta Village in Kalomo District of Zambia, where the traditional leader Clever Simapango has expressed concern while speaking to the Byta FM.

Mweebo Senior Headman also identified the herb in its local name of Lunyoka, saying it is poisonous to whoever tries to sleep with a woman who it has been used on.

in other words, though infidelity was causing men headache, but such a punishment was also costly. That is why the traditional leader is now urging stop resorting to such harsh method.

He equally said for now, there was no way of identifying women on whom the herb had been used

Report monitored by The Eagle also identified the Vice Headman, Mweebo Bruno Munsaka as saying that elders in the community had already dentified about 18 related deaths suspected to be caused by the herb.

Munsaka adds that the herb has its own effects to the reproductive organs of a woman who it has been used on.

He has since appealed to residents of Mweebo to desist from the practice, saying it complicates people’s lives.
