Why We Indulge In Amorous Relationships…Lagos Teens

You might think that they are young and innocent, but a lot of teenagers in Lagos seemingly know how to indulge in romance and amorous relationships more than adults.

This assertion was proven in the course of interacting with some of them in a random interview conducted by The Eagle correspondent in Lagos.

Majekodunmi Favour, a 16 year old student of Omole Senior Grammar School, mentioned peer pressure as one of the reasons teenagers indulge in amorous relationships, adding that seeing friends talk about or relate with the opposite sex usually triggers the same feelings in others.

Beyond, that, some, she said are influenced by the thought that they would find love and affection from the opposite sex.

Also, Godwin Peter a 15 year old student of Emay Favour Comprehensive College said most of this teenagers think they need it and some other do it because they are thinking of having sexual intercourse.

Another teen who spoke about the matter is Sola Emmanuel , a 15 year old of the same school agreed with the submission that a major factor is the influence of peers, adding however that  girls need to be careful as the boys are just eager to use them to fulfill their desires, after which they drop them.

Eleshin Toluwanimi,  a 13year old student of Ogba Junior Grammar School added another dimension by saying that many ladies trigger the desire for amorous relationships by the kind of dresses they wear.

She said girls particularly are in the habit of wearing clothes  that exposes their cleavages and that this puts men under pressure to approach them.

She added that because most girls want to wear good dresses, eat good food and have money, they are usually lured into amorous relationships with boys who are in a position to give them these.

A youth, Saviour Imo, a  21 year old student of Millenium Senior School  is of the opinion that  teenagers should not be involved in romantic relationships, although this does not seem to be so these days.

He said though relationship does not have a particular age range attached to it, but that the rate at which teens are patronizing it had indeed become alarming.

Aina Yao,  a student of the Yaba College of Technology said most teenagers are involved in amorous relationship do so for lack of parental care, “most especially the guidance needed from both parents.

She thus advises teenagers generally to wait for their time as doing so prematurely would bring series of unfortunate circumstances.
