As Nigerians mourn, late chairman of the National Electoral Commission (NEC), Professor Humphrey Nwosu, President Bola Tinubu has shared his mindset about the man.
Professor Nwosu, as chairman of the defunct NEC from 1989 to 1993, superintended the historic June 12, 1993, presidential election, that produced late Alhaji M.K.O Abiola as president, but was annulled by former president, General Ibrahim Babangida
Professor Nwosu was respected for deploying the rare Option A4 formula that helped make election credible, and had overtime retained his credibility as an unbiased umpire.
Reacting to his death, President Tinubu sees the late professor as someone who made elections credible.
He said it would thus be the greatest honour to the late Nwosu for elections in Nigerian to reflect the people’s right to choose their leaders and shape their future.
“President Bola Tinubu commiserates with the family, friends and associates of Prof Humphrey Nwosu, a former chairman of the National Electoral Commission (NEC), who died in a US hospital on 24 October.
“The President holds fond memories of Nwosu as a bold and courageous administrator”, the president said, in a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
“He expresses his deep sorrow at the loss of a patriot and national asset who played a significant role in shaping the democracy that Nigeria enjoys today.

“President Tinubu affirms that the greatest honour to champions of democracy like Nwosu is to ensure that elections in the country remain credible, transparent and democratic, reflecting the people’s right to choose their leaders and shape their future.”
He equally prayed God almighty to grant the soul of the departed political scientist eternal rest and divine comfort for those who mourn him.
