We Care Storms Town With Anti Human Trafficking, Child Labour Campaigns

Concern over prevalence of human trafficking and child labour problems in society has seen church-based We Care Ministry storm Lagos neigbourhoods with sensitisation campaigns

The We Care Group, which is of the Ikeja branch of the Redeemed Evangelical Mission (TREM) took the sensitisation campaign to secondary schools around Oregun/Alausa.

They not only educated the students about the two ills, but also taught them how to avoid them.

The team also campaigned against the use of girls as domestic servants, prostitution, forced marriages as well as the use of boys as drug peddlers and scavengers, amongst others.

The head of the team and convener, Mrs Olutoyin Okuwobi said the team was formed to give hope and transform the lives of vulnerable and indigent people in the society.

Speaking on the theme ‘Human Trafficking and Child Abuse’, the campaign programme, which was held at the church premises TREM ikeja, Mrs Olutoyin said the group has supported more than 50 children with various projects over the years.

Its intervention she added, included promoting healthier and safe communities through regular community awareness programme.

Some of the schools present were – Leeland schools Oregun; Godswills Nur/primary school Oregun; Jehovah Jireh Schools Olusosun; Oregun High School and Edify College Ojota Lagos.

An official of Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC), Ikorodu West, Rasaki Oseni, cautioned the students never to fall victim.

He also, urged them to speak out and break the silence when faced with domestic violence or sexual molestation.

TREM, with Bishop Mike Okonkwo as Presiding Bishop has been active in community impact initiatives from inception.

Its society impactful outreaches include the Mike Okonkwo Football tournaments, which has been harnessing youthful talents overtime; skill acquisition, national essay contests for secondary schools, and also a spelling Bee competition amongst others.

These are implemented through the ministry’s different branches located locally and internationally.
