This Govt Official Aims to Use Energy to Create 840,000 Jobs By 2060

Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo has explained that the government’s plan to create 840,000 jobs by 2060 will be achieved through energy transition.

Yemi Osinbajo brought attention to the sizeable amount of resources needed to realize both development and climate aspirations at the worldwide virtual launch of Nigeria’s Energy Transition Plan on Wednesday in Abuja.

The strategy serves as a guide for addressing the dual issues of energy poverty and climate change.

“Nigeria would need to spend $410 billion above business-as-usual spending to deliver our transition plan by 2060, which translates to about $10bn per year.

“The average $3bn per year investments in renewable energy recorded for the whole of Africa between 2000 and 2020 will certainly not suffice,” he said.

According to Osinbajo, the strategy might result in the creation of around 340,000 employment by 2030 and 840,000 by 2060.

He added that it offered a special chance to implement a genuine low-carbon and quick development strategy in Africa’s biggest economy.

Also at the event, the World Bank’s Nigeria Country Director, Mr. Shubham Chaudhuri, announced that the organization planned to contribute more than $1.5 billion to the Energy Transition Plan on clean cooking, power sector reforms, renewable energy, and other possibilities as they occurred.
