The villagers have already dug the ground, buried her up to the neck, and began questioning her.

That the 66-year-old woman, Christina Chiwoko was not eventually covered up, was due to prompt arrival of the police.

She had already gone down up to neck at Mwanza Village in Traditional Authority Chiwere in Dowa area of Malawi before miraculous help came her way.

While buried up to the neck, according to a video shared online, someone was querying her about witchcraft.

In fact, she was being accused of being responsible for the death of her sister, Gradesi Chiwoko, and threatened that her funeral would hold next day, according to the report in Malaw24, citing police report. .

The police report detailed that on 27 December Chiwoko’s sister Gradesi Chiwoko died suddenly after suffering from headache. A person identified Pilirani Chelumani reportedly started spreading rumours that Gradesi was killed by Chiwoko through witchcraft.

On 28 December in the afternoon, villagers alongside the suspect held Chiwoko with the aim of burying her together with her dead sister in the same grave.

Dowa Police Station officers rushed to the scene where they found that the victim was half buried. They rescued Chiwoko and took her to Dowa District Hospital.

The Police also arrested the main suspect Chelumani who is expected to be charged with charging another person of witchcraft.

In Malawi, charging a person with witchcraft is contrary to Section 4 of the Witchcraft Act.

The Eagle reports that albinos in the country had particularly suffered strange cases of ostracisation steeped in the belief that albinos could generate much wealth when used in rituals.
