Oyo State

For the good people of Oyo Central Senatorial district, in Oyo State, South-West Nigeria, another date with destiny beckons

It is close to another election year, a grand opportunity to decide and choose the next set of individuals to steer the Affairs of state at the different levels of governance. This is both a task and a call to duty that should not be handled casually, but that should be treated with every seriousness that it deserves.

Going by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)’s revised time table, Presidential and National Assembly elections will hold on Saturday 27, January 2027, while Governorship and State Houses of Assembly would hold March 6, 2027.

This is where the astute politician in Oyo State, Ambassador Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo, who is running for Senate on the ticket of the Allied People’s Movement (APM) comes into the picture.

This is one mortal who adorns many befitting caps.

Ajadi is a humanist and philanthropist, always reaching out to the needy and ever desiring and also working out the best for all others around him.

He is an entrepreneur of note with prime and leading brands in his portfolio coupled with stakes in show business promotion and the hospitality sector.

Much more, his rapidly increasing political profile is anchored on the trust that this burgeoning army of supporters find in him. He is someone who carries everyone along, who tries to respond to their varying needs in due time.

Ajadi has always been known for that: ever desiring to leave impacts in the people that he comes across, using any office or role he occupies.

It is only expected that a news breeze of relief would soon blow in Oyo Central Senatorial district, notwithstanding with the situation there before now.

Based on political antecedents, Ambassador Ajadi parades a carefully thought-out manifesto which if well implemented would leave clear impacts in the lives of the people. Initially gunning for the governorship election, he however agreed to shelve this for a senatorial ticket based on party dynamics, a clear mark of a loyal party man on the one hand, and someone who wants to really make a mark.

In this first part of a continuing dialogue, we present issues that stand Ambassador Ajadi Apart in the runup of the elections next year. One thing it should do, provide a much needed guide for voters.

  1. Responsible representation

One mantra famous with Ambassador Ajadi is responsible representation no matter the level or political office in question.

This he believes could easily be achieved through consultation with the people at the Senatorial levels.

According to him, a political office holder has to maintain constant touch with his constituency so as to know what they need and in what form they need it.

This has greatly influenced his constant shuttle diplomacy right from when he was gunning for presidency, through to governorship to his quest for the current senatorial position.

“My job at any level is to know what my people need and to work towards delivery those”, he says.

ii. Passion about containing insecurity

Ambassador Ajadi has always spoken out about the need to contain insecurity in the country generally, and in the south west particularly and so, create a peaceful and conduce atmosphere for the people to live in.

He reiterated that stance recently, when Governor Seyi Makinde unveiled the acquisition of two surveillance aircraft to strengthen Oyo State’s security architecture.

Describing the development as a bold and strategic investment that would significantly enhance intelligence gathering, aerial surveillance and rapid response to security threats across the state, he added that the successful delivery of the aircraft has demonstrated Makinde’s commitment to tackling criminality and protecting lives and property.

Ajadi commended the governor’s courage and resolve, saying the procurement underscored his determination to reduce, if not eliminate insecurity in the state.

iii. Support For Women Through Skill Acquisition

Women empowerment is  central to the Senatorial agenda of Ambassador Ajadi, and he believes that this could be pursued through skills acquisition programmes, entrepreneurship support, provision to access soft loans, and funding for micro, small, and medium enterprises run by women.

The politician believes that empowering women through the above means is one way of building productive feminine workforce and helping to create harmony at the home.

iv. Youth Empowerment And Crime Prevention

Ambassador Ajadi’s commitment towards youth development is not hidden. Himself a youth leader of many years standing, he believes that effective harnessing of the potentials of Nigerian youth would help reduce crime, and contribute effectively to socio-economic development of the nation.

He had, in the recent past, outlined a series of recommendations and action points of the best ways of harnessing those potentials in the youth.

For example, he believes that the establishment of farm settlements and agricultural production centres for youths nationwide, supported with grants and take-off funds would go a long way

He also proposes a budgetary allocation to support such agricultural programmes, outlining a selection process that would touch senatorial districts.

v. Talents’ Promotion

A critical part of the Ambassador Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo women and youth development agenda is the floating of a talents’ discovery and promotion agenda.

Viewing sports for example as a strategic tool for building a healthy, disciplined, and productive, he believes that investment in grassroots sports will both improve physical and mental well-being as well as nurture talent.

It would also sustain the values of discipline, resilience, teamwork, and respect for fair play amongst the people.

Ajadi believes that this initiative will also strengthen social inclusion, community cohesion, and collective pride.

vi. Peaceful retirement for the elderly

Healthcare provision generally and welfare programmes for the elderly are part of the crucial concerns of Ambassador Ajadi, and he believes that a seat at the Upper Legislative chamber would enable him pursue this vigorously.

His legendary support for the elderly is a proof of that sincere desire. He is a fervent believer that those who have sowed their youthful energy serving their fatherland, should not labour to get their retirement entitlements.

The politician believes that empowering women through the above means is one of building productive feminine workforce and helping to create harmony at the home.

It is expected that anyone drive by such passion should indeed be a good material for the nation’s upper legislative chamber.

The dialogue continues with other or fresh perspectives next time.
