Revealed: Glazers Must Pay New Investor Ratcliffe Big Fee If Deal Collapses 

Manchester United will have to pay Sir Jim Ratcliffe a large sum of money should they terminate the deal that will see him buy a stake in the club.

According to The Independent, if the deal fall apart, United and the Glazer family would have to pay the British tycoon and his INEOS group $66 million (£52 million). The sum includes the initial €48 million (£38 million) to which Ratcliffe would be entitled as well as an additional $18 million (£14 million) for his living expenses.

On Christmas Eve, United announced that Ratcliffe and the Glazers had agreed a £1.25 billion ($1.59 billion) agreement. Ratcliffe will assume a 25 percent ownership in the company, which will increase to 29 percent upon conversion of his $300 million (£235 million) investment into United’s infrastructure into more shares.

The British billionaire will also have the first option to buy more shares from the American owners if they decide to sell them in the future. However, if they agree a full sale of the club, Ratcliffe will have to sell his shares for the same price he paid for them.

It may take up to eight weeks to ratify the agreement, so it might not be completed until late January. Nevertheless, before conducting any potential transfer transaction during the transfer window, United must speak with INEOS.
