Quarter Final Prediction: South Africa, Ivory Coast To Be Knocked Out Of 2023 AFCON

Ivory Coast are set for a quarter-final exit in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations according to predictions provided by Opta’s supercomputer. 

Cape Verde vs South Africa

Not many would have picked South Africa and Cape Verde as favourites, but they have impressed thus far.

In the final 16, the Islanders had it slightly easier against Mauritania, but Hugo Broos’ Bafana Bafana eliminated the continent’s top-ranked squad.

Prediction: Cape Verde 51.3% – South Africa 48.7%

Nigeria vs Angola

As the top-ranked team still in the competition, the Super Eagles are always considered the favourites in any Afcon tournament, therefore the onus is on them to live up to the hype.

Nigeria takes on a surprising Angolan team that has dominated their group and is home to a highly regarded Algerian team. It is anticipated that their trip would soon come to an end.

Prediction: Nigeria 66.3% – Angola 33.7%

Mali vs Ivory Coast

In this competition, Mali will face an Ivory Coast team that has triumphed countless times from the depths of defeat.

The hosts qualified via a backdoor as one of the top third-place finishers, but they did not have the best group stage performance. However, they could run out of luck against a well-prepared Mali team.

DRC vs Guinea

After upending the record-holder Egypt, the Democratic Republic of the Congo created one of the biggest upsets and will now face Guinea with everything on the line.

They held their own against Cameroon in the pool stage and eliminated Equatorial Guinea in the round of 16, however, so these Guineans are no pushovers.

Prediction: DRC 53.0% – Guinea 47.0%

Earlier on, Opta gave Senegal a 12.8% chance of winning the title and projected that they would defeat the hosts, Ivory Coast, who were given a 12.1% chance.

The Ivorians are still the favourites to win the championship after the Lions of Teranga were eliminated, with Nigeria receiving an 8.1% probability.
