Professional Neglect By Road Safety Officials In Lagos

Road Safety Officials

Firstly, I will like to state what the duty of a road safety official is. A Road Safety Official is someone who makes sure that the drivers obey the traffic light; who makes sure that the driver is the rightful owner of the car he is driving, is with a driver’s license, and who also ensures that the car is in good condition by sightseeing.

But my experience on my way to Ikotun one sunny afternoon showed otherwise.

I entered a bus not knowing the bus driver was not having his driving license. He was caught by the road safety official, and after long conversation with the official, he was released.

This was after they had negotiated price, before his release.

I was so disappointed like many other passengers because they Road Safety Officials showed that they were truly worthy of their work.

With this,, I suggest that there should be seminars at the local level in other for the bus drivers to be educated on how risky their work is and also for them to realise that so many lives are entrusted into their care when they are driving.

These Road Safety officials need to be trained, and given a proper orientation on how to do a good job.
