Police Shot Him For impregnating girl, Now He Risks His Leg Amputated
Police shot him allegedly for impregnating a girl, now Ledesi Kote, from K Dere community, Gokana Local Government Area, risks having his left leg amputated.
That is the worrisome update coming from Rivers State neighborhood where the incident happened August 21.
The matter is still shrouded in controversy, as the real identity of the so-called policemen is yet to be ascertained.
What is more worrisome is that medics have said the victim urgently requires three surgeries on the awful looking leg, which that body part would be amputated to save his life.
In all these, the police is yet to mention the personnel involved, thus fuelling suspicions that the police is shielding the alleged group.
Kote, the distraught father said: “I was in my compound in K Dere community, Gokana Local Government Area, on August 21, about 7am when a Toyota Sienna drove in with about four armed policemen.
“They rushed straight to my son’s room, banging or the door and cocking guns. I approached them on what my son could have done, and one of them angrily told me my son impregnated a girl.
“One of the officers shot my son on the leg simply because he impregnated a girl and went away with him while he was bleeding profusely and hid him in a private hospital.”
A report on the matter by Vanguard, a civil society group leader interceding for the victim said under anonymity that the police authorities were aware, but parties are working towards a mutual resolution.
Also, Karl Uchegbu the South South Chairman of the Civil Liberties Organisations said a right activist and other concerned citizens in the area took the father to the State Police Command Headquarters where he lodged an official complaint.
. “Arrangements were said to be made for immediate transfer of the victim from the village to a better government-owned hospital in Port Harcourt.”, he said.
There were also suggestions that the real officer who did the shooting had been detained at the State Criminal Investigations Department.
Also, moves are on to pursue an amicable settlement of the matter, but what will the fate of the boy who risks losing his leg.

Is there a guarantee of him getting the best treatment and due punishment for the gang which carried out the attack to serve as a deterrent to others.
Probably, that is what may put paid to stories of police shot, and police killed that appear to have become the norm.

Do you dispose your waste the right way or like some ignorant citizens you throw your waste in the drainage.
Have you ever thought about what good you’ll be doing to yourself and your environment when you stop the wrongful disposal of waste.
Many Lagosians have on various occasions been cautioned about dumping their waste in their drainages but as often as possible these cautions fall on deaf ears.
For residents in Okoko-Miko, they face many environmental hazards like flood which can be attributed to block drainage as a result of refuse dump.
Refuse disposal is one of the major environmental problems that confronts developing countries.
Health hazard, traffic congestion, unsightliness, unpleasantness and blockage of drainages are some of the problems caused by the lack of efficient waste management practice in Nigeria.
The problem of waste management has two parts, that of collection and that of disposal.
Communal collection, block collection, door to door collection and kerbside collection methods have been practiced by different societies but a lot still needs to be put in place in a place like Lagos which is faced with over-population as.
Disposal methods such as dumping sites, incineration, recycling, shipping and home garbage disposal units have been used in different societies.
Speaking to a waste management official, Arogundade Lekan, on the solutions to this ill, he said “until people make conscious effort to stop themselves from disposing their wastes indiscriminately, there will be re-occurring environment problem and we will all be affected.
“LAWMA is there to aid waste disposal for citizens in a stress-free manner but you’ll still see people so adamant because they feel they can always trash it in the gutters and nothing will happen.”
A resident of Okoko-Miko said “whenever it rains they roads become flooded and this is because of the waste in the drainage.
“There have been times when LAWMA officials would come and clear it but for sometime now that have not been seen.
He further stated that sanction needs to be created and possible fine place so that people can stop disposing their waste in the drainage
