Please, Note These Dos And Don’ts, NIJ Registrar Advises Freshers

The Registrar of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism (Mrs Patricia Kalesanwo has advised freshers to note the dos and don’ts of the school so that their stay would be memorable.

Mrs Kalesanwo gave the advice at the institutions campus, Ogba Ikeja Lagos, yesterday as part of the activities marking the freshers’ week.

She advised them to make themselves available for the variety of activities that had been lined up to receive them as those activities had been prepared to prepare them.

The NIJ registrar, listed conducts highly prohibited in the school to include improper dressing, forming of gangs, cultism, alcohol drinking, tinting of hair and piercing of the ears by male students

She stated that students must attend lectures regularly and must meet 70% of attendance to qualify to write their examinations.

In addition, they must perform exceptionally well in their first-semester exams to boast the Grade Point Average (GPA), and that a student who scored a cumulative GPA below 2:0 would be issued a warning letter.

Further still, a CGPA score below 1.5 at the end of the second semester would attract a letter of withdrawal, she informed the freshers.

Mrs Kalesanwo also advised the freshers to use the established channels of redress, especially the Students Representative Council (SRC) in routing their grievances rather than seeking to confront any staff personally on any issue whatsoever.

“I appeal to you all to fully participate in this one week orientation so that you will be conversant with the environment in order to have a comfortable stay”, Mrs Kalesanwo advised.

The NIJ is a leading monotechnic in Nigeria for the study of communication courses at both the National Diploma (ND) Higher National Diploma (HND) and Post-graduate Diploma (PGD) levels.

There are also short professional courses for industry-based persons in film making, editing and photography amongst others.
