‘Nobody Can Pressure Me To Resign My Position’

Nobody can pressure me to resign from my position.  (In fact) “Let me send a message to everyone talking .. I cannot be intimidated”.

Those were the words of indignation and self-assertion, from Ambassador Umar Damagum, who added that: “The more you mention me, the more popular I become.”

The Acting National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, was reacting to pressures from members who have some axes to grind about his style of leadership.

Venue was the inauguration of the Olagunsoye Oyinlola and Tom Ikimi-led National Reconciliation and Disciplinary Committees.

Complaints have flourished since after the last election, in which the PDP switched position from the ruling party to the opposition.

Not only do members apportion a chunk of the blames on the leadership, they have by implication made it difficult for Damagum to have a peace of mind.

But to Damagum:: Nobody can make me resign.

“Let me send a message to everyone talking about Damagum this, Damagum that – I cannot be intimidated. The more you mention me, the more popular I become”, he stated.

The Eagle reports that last May, a federal high court in Abuja has restrained the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from replacing Umar Damagum as the acting chairman.

The suit, marked FCH/ABJ/CS/579/2024, was filed by Umar El-Gash Maina and Zanna Mustapha Gaddama on May 2, with the PDP, the national working committee (NWC), the national executive committee (NEC), the PDP board of trustees (BoT), and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as respondents.

Peter Lifu, the presiding judge, while delivering judgement on on May 3, made an interim order restraining the respondents from nominating anybody to replace Damagum, pending the determination of the motion on notice.

That lifted off pressure from the Damagun camp.
