Female Clinical Psychologist Assassinated In Coordinated Ambush

A female clinical psychologist has been assassinated, days after she reported to the police, of threats to her life.

Dr. Victoria Nthunya Mutiso, a director at the Africa Institute of Mental and Brain Health was driving in a taxi, when a motorcycle carrying three men drew close.

The shooting occurred at around 9 a.m. at the junction of Mbagathi Link Road and Mawenzi Road, in Upper Hill, near Kenyatta National Hospital in Nairobi, Kenya.

Reports monitored by our correspondent, said one of the riders fired two shots at Dr. Mutiso at close range, and the motorcycle immediately fled.

An SUV, a Toyota Prado specifically which had already been positioned at the junction awaiting arrival of Dr. Mutiso’s cab also sped off immediately the shooting.

The Uber driver had quickly rushed Dr Mutiso to the Kenyatta National Hospital Emergency Centre, but she was pronounced dead on arrival.

Those who witnessed what happened describe the attack as a professional coordinated one, even homicide detectives have nabbed two suspects in connection with it while the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has cordoned off the vehicle at the hospital.

The police is holding the Uber vehicle, examining mobile phones belonging to both the deceased and the driver in a bid to unravel secrets connected with the assassination.

Her body was transferred to the KNH morgue, where an autopsy is yet to be conducted.

It would be recalled that Dr Mutiso had earlier reported a threat to her life at Kilimani Police Station, and was referred the matter to Satellite Police Station under the Dagoretti Division.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters are now trying to see if there is any connection between the death and the threat.

DCI Director Mohammed Amin has confirmed that investigation was ongoing to ascertain the above.

“The DCI further confirms that two persons of interest are in lawful custody and are undergoing interrogation as part of ongoing investigations”, he has said

The brazen shooting occurred at around 9 a.m. at the junction of Mbagathi Link Road and Mawenzi Road.

Witnesses described the killing of the female clinical psychologist, who is also a mental health researcher as a carefully coordinated ambush, saying a Toyota Prado was already parked at the junction when the Uber vehicle carrying Dr Mutiso arrived and stopped alongside it.

Moments later, a motorcycle carrying three men approached the vehicle. One of the assailants allegedly opened fire, shooting Dr Mutiso twice in the head at close range before fleeing on the motorcycle.
