No Result Six Years After Graduation -NTI Students Protest
BY GBEMILE OLUWATOSIN
It is a sad situation for Post-Graduate in Education students of the National Teachers’ Institute (NTI) in the South-West region as six years upon graduation, they are yet to see their results.
Unable to stomach the uncomfortable situation any longer, the ex-students mobilised in their number recently to protest.
With placards reading “No Results, No Exam”, they gathered at the Ketu centre, Lagos to drive home their point.
Some of them who spoke to our correspondent, bemoaned the fact that their inability to get their results and certificate has affected them in getting promotion and getting new job.
It would be recalled that probably in an anticipatory move, NTI had to issue a memo on the 24th of last month, susupening a scheduled exam until further notice.
The Eagle correspondent reports that prioer to the protest, that the students have aggregated their actions via a Zoom meeting where they took the decision to rally for the protest at Ketu Center, Lagos.
Even with the scenario, the authorities of NTI SOUTHWEST UI couldn’t give exact date for release of the results.
Kehinde Bukola, Public Relations Officer, noted that virtually alI the students are concerned about the delay in getting their result.
He said aside the fact that it was the right of the students and expected for results to be issued to students who had completed a programme, that the graduands were particularly angered that the delay in issuing them the results had denied them juicy employment opportunities.
It was further gathered that students, who participated in the programme in 2017, 2018 and 2019, have not collected their results up till now.
“NTI management has been playing pranks with us without disclosing the problems between it and the UI”, one of the students said.
He added that out of the six zones of institute, that students in the South-West were the ones that have yet to get their results and certificates.
Ironically, the NTI keeps admitting more students for the programme in the region when it has not released the results and certificates for three consecutive sets.
Our correspondent’s efforts to speak with the authorities did not immediately yield results but the students said they would not relent until the matter was resolved.
