A group of Nigerians in diaspora are not happy with Igbo billionaire, Chief Arthur Eze, with his suggestion for Mr Peter Obi to drop his presidency bid.

The group. Diasporans for Good Governance (DGG), say the call is motivated by personal interest rather than anything else.

Inferring Eze to belong to “those who profit from Nigeria’s dysfunctional rentier system”, and who would fight hard to retain the status quo, the group held that Obi’s candidacy represented the new order of competence, capacity, integrity, and political decency.

The Eagle recalls that Chief Arthur Eze, speaking at an Ofala ceremony in Ukpo Anambra State, had given reason why he was not backing Obi’s candidacy for the presidency..

According to him, Obi continuing in the race would run counter to the expected emergency of Professor Chukwuma Soludo, the Anambra State governor becoming the Nigerian president.

But the Nigerians in Diaspora, in their follow up have argued that Eze’s argument does not hold water.

“When Peter Obi started talking about turning Nigeria from consumption to production”, the group said instead, “we knew that those who profit from Nigeria’s dysfunctional rentier system will fight hard to retain the status quo.

“But the masses have resolved to take their destiny into their hands and that is why the masses are flocking to Peter Obi who represents the new order and the light that will guide them out of darkness”, the group said in the statement signed by the Mr Johnny Obika, Dr Ben Opara, Mr. Franklin Nwakor, Mr Mike Okaka and Mr. Camillus Konkwo

Arthur Eze’s opposition to Peter Obi only shows that he is a part of the political cabal that has brought unprecedented insecurity, economic hardship, oil theft, and corruption, unemployment, and debt crises.

“His latest attack on Obi is only an attempt to sustain the stranglehold on Nigeria which they have turned into the poverty capital of the world.

“We joins the entire Nigerian citizenry in Nigeria and the diaspora to say no to political merchants of neo-imperialism, dehumanization and mass impoverishment,” the group stated.
