National Security: FCT NSCDC seals Chinese security firm, six others

Concerns about national security has made the Federal Capital Territory Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) to seal some security firms.

Also sealed are 7 private security companies believed to be operating with expired authorisations or without operational license at all, including a Chinese-owned security company.

The security companies affected included Segad Security and Protection Company; Security of China Private Security Company; Frowise Global Security Equipment Ltd; BERA Security Company;  Prixair Security Outfit; Moss Bright Security Company and another one in CEWARA Estate.

The FCT Commandant of the NSCDC, Dr Olusola Odumosu, led the enforcement team that carried out the sealing.

Proving details, he said the companies and their style of operations constituted serious threats to internal security.

“The law stipulates that before operating a private guard company in Nigeria, one must not only register with the Corporate Affairs Commission but also obtain an operational licence approved by the Minister of Interior through the NSCDC”, he stated

“Some operators of private guard companies do not understand the implications of their actions on national security,” Odumosu stated.

“I am aware of numerous cases where guards have been responsible for kidnapping their employers and, in some instances, have planned robbery operations within the very premises they are meant to protect. This cannot be allowed to continue,” he added.

On the involved of Chinese nationals in the running of such illegal companies, Odumosu expressed concern that foreigners operating security guard companies in Nigeria, would have dire cosequences, especially given the difficulty in assertainign the true mission of such a company.

“There are many registered security companies available. Those interested in operating their own must follow the legal process and obtain the necessary approvals,” the Commandant concluded.
