A former Lagos governorship candidate, Abdul-Azeez Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, has withdrawn from the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship race.
Jandor announced his withdrawal today via an X post, stating that the decision was not borne out of weakness or a lack of capacity, but discipline, and a deep respect for party cohesion and unity
“.. leadership also demands the capacity to make difficult but necessary decisions that prioritize collective interest above personal ambition.
“Following the endorsement of Dr. Kadiri Hamzat by our Leader, the President of Nigeria, and Leaders of our party in Lagos, and in recognition of the prevailing realities within the political landscape of our great party, I have decided to withdraw from the 2027 Lagos State gubernatorial race.
“This decision is not borne out of weakness or a lack of capacity, but out of strength, discipline, and a deep respect for party cohesion and unity.”
Jandor’s action is coming on the heels of the formal presentation by Governor Sanwo-olu to the public, of his deputy as successor to the exalted office.

In the announcement which followed the conclusion of a closed-door meeting at Lagos House, Marina, attended by mostly members of the Governor’s Advisory Council, Sanwo-olu stated:
“It was unanimous with all of us to say that Mr Deputy Governor is a man who is fit and well-prepared for this job. He is a man who knows where all the rooms in the house are”.
On the capability of Hamzat for the job, the governor added: “He is a man who has worked with me at the highest level of integrity, loyalty, commitment, support, and so I feel personally honoured and privileged that he has given me this honour to inform me.
“We thank our father, our leader, Mr President, who saw the vision… that long run is what is already being manifested here today,” he added.
