Immigrants Who Couldn’t Pay Smugglers’ Ransom Thrown Into The Sea

Survivors of a boat tragedy earlier this month have alleged that it was premeditated by human traffickers, recounting their ordeals.

There had been a migrant boat tragedy on the Atlantic Ocean, between Mauritania and Morocco earlier this month, drawing global as much as national governments’ attention.

44 out of a total of 65 Pakistani immigrants on board the either got drowned or died after alleged torture, even as 10 bodies have been recovered.

Some of the survivors told a 4-man Pakistani investigative team in Morocco that the accident was a premeditated massacre orchestrated by human traffickers.

They said the human smugglers kept the boat stranded in open waters for several days, demanding ransom.

“Those who paid were released, while those who couldn’t were beaten with hammers and thrown into the sea,” they stated.

Aside the direct attack by the smugglers, they also other factors which led to the death of many passengers to include cold weather, lack of food, and physical assault.

“The boat was under the control of an international human trafficking ring, involving smugglers from Senegal, Mauritania, and Morocco,” sources said.

It was crowded and survivors faced other harsh conditions like food and water shortages report added.
