How To Qualify For UK's 2022 Scale-up Visa & Earn £33,000 Minimum Wage

By Tolulope Oke

The United Kingdom (UK) has announced applications for the 2022 scale-up visa  for Nigerians and other international nationals, kicking off on August 22.

According to a statement issued, the programme’s participants are expected to bring in sought-after experience and abilities, and businesses that can increase their creativity, productivity and thereby continue to contribute to the UK’s economy. These fields include science, engineering, and programming.

Growing companies would benefit from this development by attracting the best talent, which would promote economic growth throughout the economy. Scaling up is a critical stage for high-growth companies to continue expanding and boost their global competitiveness.

Minister for Safe and Legal Migration, Kevin Foster, said, “Rapidly growing businesses, like small enterprises, tech and financial services, need the right level of support to go to the next level. Through our Scale-up visa, we’re enabling businesses to focus on their growth and innovation by giving them more freedom to bring in the diverse skills and experience they need, making them more attractive on an international stage.”

CEO of the ScaleUp Institute, Irene Graham OBE, explained that Scaleups are active in every region, hiring workers from both at home and abroad, as they push expansion into their local communities and beyond, adding more than £1 trillion a year and more than 3 million jobs to the UK economy.

In her words, “The visa should help with the skills demands. We look forward to continuing to work with the government as this service evolves to ensure it fully addresses scaling business needs and works effectively.”

For at least three years, a company must show a 20% increase in either employment or revenue annually in order to be considered a scaleup. Additionally, they must have hired at least 10 individuals during the course of the preceding three years.
