How Rev Mike Egwu Left Many Moral Lessons Turning 60

It was an inspiring spectacle all through, with bold evidences that the man of the moment, has indeed paid his dues turning 60.

From the massive turnout of people, , to the guard of honour mounted by distinguished personalities from across the professions and fields down to the pastoral tributes and profuse prayers, there couldn’t have been a better way to state this obvious fact.

 Welcome to the 6oth birthday celebration of Rev Mike Egwu, pastor in charge of the ikorodu branch of the Redeemed Evangelical Mission (TREM), a.k.a Liberty Centre.

From being just a member serving in ministering arms, church groups to becoming a branch pastor, there was no doubt about his life of commitment to the things of God, with a harvest of moral lessons for many.

The man of God won’t be 60 twice, the anchor had observed, and this assertion, in all its truism resonated in the hall, igniting more excitement, in dance, in songs, drama, citations and the many things more that were showcased at the occasion, an impressive total package, which the man of God was to testify later, that he knew little or nothing about. The members just took it over, ensuring he was truly celebrated at 60.

The resident choir, The Liberty Voices had set right the day’s mood with a song of appreciation, a lullaby to the Almighty God – “Great is thy faithfulness...” only for every other segment of the celebration to preach a profound message. Service. Commitment, unfailing grace of God being part of those morals.

Rev Iyke Osuji, who delivered the day’s message also dropped a legion and one nuggets, including the assertion that the race of life is not to the swift, neither indeed, would any man prevail by strength.

Praying without applying time-tested and positive principles of living, the man of God pursued could also take one nowhere

Otherwise, how could nations lacking the knowledge of God and the fervency of prayer, experience, economic and technological advantage, he posed

Prosperity is not by hard work alone, not by prayer alone, but by also imbibing critical principles of human capital development and nation building.

 Using public office holding as a reference, Rev Osuji submitted that should Nigeria do what China for example, had done in the course of her development, corruption for example would have gone in Nigeria.

Several other nuggets and moral lessons emanated from Rev Osuji’s loaded his ministration include:

-the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong

-you couldn’t have come this far in life just by experience, it’s the Lord that preserved you

-when you were weak and the devil could have snuffed life off you and nobody could have complained, there was a life that held there.

-even while you were not yet anointed, he protected there.

-He said to Jeremiah, before I formed thee in your mother’s womb, I knew there

– I lay me down and I awoke because the Lord sustained me

-because life is easier for you should not make you think you are most intelligent or most hardworking

– don’t forget that the ladder of success is created by God

–except the Lord builds the house…

-it is easy to cry about things you do not have, and blame God, but that’s because you are alive in the first place.

-Did you pass through challenging experience, yes; but the truth is that it could have been worse

In fact, his ministration was so loaded with moral lessons and duly prepared the grounds for prayers for the celebrant

That important assignment was handled by Rev Steve Ahanotu from headquarters, who stood in for Bishop Peace Okonkwo.

With the path of the righteous that shineth brighter and brighter as in Prov 4:18, Rev Ahanotu called fervent prayers for the celebrant, asking amongst others for call on God to sustain the light of His shine upon his servant.

Rev (Dr) Lizzy Ikem, former chairperson of Dunamis Publications of TREM headquarters where then Bro Egwu also served, did an enlightening review of a book which the man of God had authored, titled: “Unearthing Your Potential; A Manual For Fulfilment of Godly Purpose”.

In her review, she began by first commending the celebrant for forbearing with the rigours and discipline that go with authoring.

“It is a task that demands a lot of sacrifice. It requires an unusual level of organisation and commitment. If someone therefore braves all such challenges and brings out a book, he should be duly commended.

“That is why, I wholeheartedly salute our dear Pastor, Revered Mike Egwu, for the discipline, commitment and sacrifice of bringing out this book”.

According to the reviewer, “As someone with a Mass Communication background, i hold the mantra, that information is key, both to an individual life and to the collective existence of society.

Such a society includes the Church of Jesus Christ, because even the Bible admonishes us to seek knowledge.

This, our pastor has helped us to do, and put in a book. Again, I commend you Man of God”, she said.

In fact, it was such a rewarding and instructive day, that when it was time for the thanksgiving, the man of God was a bundle of appreciation and emotions.

He could not but recall the challenging beginning of life with all its twistes and turns, but which at the end of the day, again, leaves moral lessons for all.

Amidst showering praises and appreciation to all, especially church members big and small for such a sacrifice in show of love, taking it upon themselves to organise such a befitting and memorable birthday celebration, he prayed profusely for God to also remember them for good.

And to the Almighty God, for not giving up on him.

“I just want to thank the Almighty God for not giving up on me.

“I have gone through so many things but the Lord kept me.

“Even when I waited for too long to answer the call of God upon my life, God was patient with me.; He did n ot give up on me

In fact there were much more that the man of God recalled, and which would form a separate story on this news medium.

It was not just a 60^th birthday celebration, but one with Moral Lessons for others.
