How Police Beat Up People Who Came For COVID-19 Palliative

It was a pathetic sight at Ibafo on Monday where the police beat up hapless residents who had turned up to collect palliative packages.

The palliatives which was escorted by the police arrived in a truck at the Ibafo Underbridge at about 1pm, leading to a frenzy among the desperate residents and traders.

The initiative by an organisation, Rosula Foundation had obviously meant well when it began to organize the people with the intention of distributing the largesse.

The Eagle Correspondent who observed the process reports that the organisation failed to take cognizance of the social distancing principle in the whole arrangement, lumping people together who had no face masks together.

However, worse was that it could not manage the crowd that turned out, leading to chaos and the invitation of the uniformed men.

A resident Mr Ayuba Badmus, who spoke to The Eagle on the matter, said it was unfortunate what happend.

According to him, police beat up people who were already hungry and needing something to eat, saying Rosula which invited both the people and the police should be blamed for not making adequate arrangement.

He said off hand comments around the sharing venue showed that most people in the area did not really believe in COVID-19 and were more interested in getting things to sustain themselves than anything else.
