How Did The Grandpa Land In NDLEA Net Over Illicit Drugs?

How did a grandpa land in the net of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) over allegations of possession of illicit drugs?

That is the question on the lips of neigbours in the Magbon area of Ogun State, where the 67 year old grandpa was allegedly found in possession of the illicit drugs including 57kg of Indian hemp, 2,700 pills of tramadol and 231 bottles of Codeine syrup.

NDLEA’s spokesman, Mr Femi Babafemi  said the NDLEA haul also extended to Benin, the Edo State capital where a raid on a drug store led to the apprehension drugs of the owner of the joint, a 36-year-old commander of a vigilance group in the area.

NDLEA’s spokesman, Mr Femi Babafemi stated these on Sunday in Abuja adding that the raid in the drug store led to the apprehension of a 24-year-old sales girl and recovery of assorted illicit drugs.

He added that a follow-up operation on Wednesday led to the arrest of the owner of the joint, a 36-year-old commander of a vigilance group in the area.

According to him, operatives of the agency recovered 179kg of Indian hemp in Badagry, Lagos State on Wednesday, while it arrested a 25-year-old lady in Bagga, Borno who had cocaine and heroin in her possession.

The operation equally led to the nabbing of a 26-year-old and a 22-year-old male suspect who had in his possession, quantities of cocaine and heroin.

This were at Meri and Babban Layi areas of Maiduguri.

The NDLEA operations yielded positive results in other regions of the country, including Zamfara, after it impounded about 44,820 pills of illicit psychotropic drugs being taken there by a 25-year-old and another case of a 54-year-old on Jegga-Sokoto Road in Kebbi.

In the case of Birnin Yero in Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna state, a 35 year old supposed farmer could  not outsmart the agency as he was arrested on a farm where he grows tomatoes and Indian hemp together.

“Two suspects were also arrested in a commercial bus as they were travelling from Lagos to Kano with 99 blocks of Indian hemp on them.

“The drugs weighed 37kg and were intercepted on Kwali-Gwagwalada Expressway in the FCT on Monday, Feb. 19.

“Another suspect was arrested at Upper Iweka area of Onitsha, Anambra with 483 bottles of codeine-based cough syrup concealed in two 50-litre kegs.
