The official statement from Hertha read, “We were horrified to learn yesterday that Aymen Barkok was physically attacked in a Berlin bar during the night from Saturday to Sunday and had to be taken to hospital with facial injuries.
“Aymen had a successful operation yesterday, Sunday, but will not be available to us for the time being. We wish you a speedy recovery, Aymen! We are thinking of you.”
Barkok, who was born in Frankfurt, attended Eintracht’s academy and made his senior debut in the club’s 2016 campaign. He initially signed with Mainz, a team in the Bundesliga, in 2022. During the January transfer window, he was then loaned to Hertha.
The player had a successful operation, the club announced, but it is unlikely that he will play for the team for the rest of the season.
