Breaking: Olubadan Of Ibadan, Oba Olakulehin, Joins Ancestors

Ibadanland, the popular and populated southwest city is in mourning as Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, joins his ancestors.

Terse information reaching The Eagle News indicates that the respected traditional ruler died in the earlier hours of today aged 90.

He was the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland, having been officially presented with the staff of office by Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, on July 12, 2024.

Born on 5 July 1935 to the family of Pa Ishola-Okin Owolabi and Madam Adunola Aweni Ope Ajilaran Omoyoade Owolabi in Okugbaja village, Ita Baale, Ibadan, he attended the St James Primary School, Oke Akaran, Islamic School, Odoiye, and the St Peter Primary School, Aremo, Ibadan.

He was a primary school teacher at Wakajaiye in the Akobo area of Ibadan before gaining admission to Yaba Technical Institute where he studied printing and artwork.

The late monarch worked at the Ministry of Works, Western Region Government in Ibadan, before returning to the Yaba College of Technology, this time to study for his Ordinary National Diploma and Higher National Diploma certificates in Building.

He served in the Nigerian Army as a 2nd Lieutenant, serving in the Nigerian Army Corps of Engineers, successfully advancing to the rank of Major.

Upon retirement as a major in 1979, he ventured into entrepreneurial ventures, and politically, using the platform of Social Democratic Party (SDP), he had contested and won a seat in the House of Representatives in 1992.
