Breaking 200 Students Trapped In Collapsed School Building

New information has emerged over the collapsed school building which happened yesterday, while the students were writing their third term examination.

The incident happened at the Saints Academy secondary school in Jos, the Plateau State capital, sending shock waves round the state.

The Commissioner for Information and Communication, Musa Ashoms, has now confirmed that about 200 students were trapped in the collapsed school building.

That is like half the population as according to him, the school has a total population of about 400.
Ashoms, spoke while on a visit to the school, in the company of some state government officials.

“The collapsed building has resulted in casualties, and injured students are still being evacuated to hospitals.
“We cannot however, ascertain the exact number of casualties until the evacuation is completed

“The emergency workers are doing a lot in the rescue efforts.
“The Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has urged the medical personnel in the hospitals to ensure that they save the lives of survivors.

“They should not ask for money or anything because this is an emergency situation,” he said.

According to the commissioner, the collapsed building incident, has underscored the imperative of order 003 of the state government, aimed at enforcing the Greater Jos Master Plan.

The building he said was built in a waterlogged area, and fell short of the state government’s construction standards.
He however assured that the Jos Metropolitan Development Board would ensure adherence to buiilding standards even as it would bring down those that defectivd structures.
